Our bindery includes both saddle-stitch and perfect binding capabilities along with die cutting, foil stamping and embossing. In addition we offer a complete mail service utilizing our Cheshire mailing system.
File Submission
Boyd Brothers accepts all major Desk Top Publishing application native files for file submission. However, if the client prefers to submit PDF/X1a files it may save in prepress time. PDF/X1a Specs
PDF/X1a is a format for CMYK or Grayscale file submission. With the approval and publication of ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 15930-1 file format standard, PDF/X1a is now the recommended file exchange format for most major publications. There are many benefits associated with using PDF/X1a files. PDF/X1a is multi-platform, ensuring seamless file exchange. Files are easy to open and view in high resolution. PDF/X1a files are also smaller and can be created without expensive proprietary software and equipment and a PDF often eliminates processing errors commonly encountered with PostScript.This format can save time and money in the Prepress Department. However, careful attention must be paid to the proper creation of PDF/X1a files to ensure that they will reproduce correctly. Exporting as a PDF from QuarkXpress or using PDF Writer is not recommended.
PDF/X1a file should be saved on a 100 MB Zip, DVD, or CD-ROM. Only one job per disk.

All High-resolution images and fonts must be included when the PDF/X1a file is saved.
Only use Type 1 or 3 Fonts - No TrueType fonts or Font Substitutions are allowed.
Images must be SWOP (CMYK or Grayscale) TIFF or EPS between 200 and 400 dpi.
Total area density should not exceed SWOP 300% TAC.
No RGB or JPEG Images. Do not nest EPS file into other EPS files. Do not embed ICC Profiles within images.
Right Reading, Portrait Mode, 100% Size, No Rotations.
Maximum dimensions 27.5" wide by 39" high including all marks.
Digital proof (Color or B&W) which represents the final digital file.
