We have a complete digital prep department consisting of the latest technology in PDF workflows, CTP and scanners. In our pressroom you’ll find Heidelberg Speedmasters and GOSS Sunday 2000 presses. Our bindery includes saddle-stitch, spiral, GBC comb, wire-o and perfect binding capabilities along with folding, die cutting, foil stamping, tabbing and embossing. What ever the printing needs we can provide it with one of our offset printing presses or for short run color copy publications we have a Ricoh MP C4000 full color copier. In addition, we offer a complete mail service utilizing our VideoJet and Cheshire mailing system. All the work is done under one roof for assured quality and demanding deadlines.

Digital vs. Offset Printing

With thousands of digital printers springing up on the internet, understanding the advantages and disadvantages of digital printing and how they compare to those of traditional offset lithography is critical in making the correct printing choices.

 

Offset lithography is the most common high volume commercial printing technology. With offset printing, the desired print image is burned onto a plate and is then offset from the plate to a rubber blanket, from there the ink is rolled on and permeates the printing surface (see our video page for a visual demonstration). The lithographic process is based on the chemical fact that oil and water don't mix. The image to be printed gets ink from ink rollers, while the non printing area attracts a film of water, keeping the non printing areas ink-free. Offset printing produces high image quality, sharp text, and beautiful colors. It works on a wide range of printing surfaces and the unit cost goes down as the quantity goes up. When quality or high quantities is the priority use offset printing.

 

Digital printing is a plateless process that uses several different printing engines, depending on the application. Using information from a external file, text and graphics can be changed on each piece without stopping or slowing down the press. The color electrophotographic printing systems are similar to high-speed copiers. The processes use a photoconductor that is charged, exposed by lasers, and imaged with dry powder or liquid toners. The image is then transferred and fixed to the top of the substrate. It's used extensively for full color on-demand printing. Magnetographic printing is similar to electrophotographic printing except that magnetic toners are used. It is used for single and spot color short-run and on-demand printing. When variable data printing or lower per unit costs for very small print runs is the priority use digital printing.
